I tweaked with some of the settings to account for me using a semi-hollow while the youtuber was playing a les paul, and it didn't get any better. I got a bit disheartened when I punched in a youtuber's Tone Studio settings and got a wholely different sound. An 800-watt 8x10 cabinet, assuming it's wired like every other cabinet, has 8 100W 10" speakers. Anything above 400W or so is probably a bass cabinet. I think 320-watts is the highest rating I've seen on a guitar cabinet, meaning four 80-watt speakers. You won't find many 400W guitar amps, head or combo, or really anything over 150W. You could put four 100W speakers in a 4x12, and if they're wired like other cabinets you'd have a 400W cabinet. Two ordinary 16-ohm cabinets means a total load of 8 ohms, so an amp with multiple outputs would have two jacks labeled "1 x 8 or 2 x 16". I've never seen a head that can't handle 16, and the Katana head I think requires a minimum load of 8 ohms and only has one speaker output so any 8-ohm or 16-ohm cabinet will work - amps with multiple speaker outputs have a minimum load that's usually 4 ohms, maybe 2. 4 16-ohm 25W speakers wired that way gives you a total load of 16 ohms and a total power handling rated at 100W. There are two ways you can wire a 4x12 (or 4x10 for that matter), the main one is Series/Parallel: 4 X 8 Ohm Speaker = 8 Ohm Load 4 X 16 Ohm Speaker = 16 Ohm LoadĪ typical 4x12 is wired in series/parallel (not series, not parallel, but series/parallel). for 2x30-watt & 2圆0-watt speakers, max power handling = 4x30-watt = 120-watt) Power handling - as a rule of thumb, when mixing speakers in a four speaker cabinet, maximum power is 4 x the lowest rated speaker (e.g.Match impedances (ohms) - all speakers in the same box should have the same impedance. You won't find 100W speakers in something like a 4x12 - you would in something like the 1x12 Katanas - and it's down to how they're wired: Do you know much about that sort of thing? I thought for a 100w amp you'd want four 100w speakers.
